Dear NC ASHRM Members,

I am both honored and excited to have the opportunity to serve as your 2018 NC ASHRM Chapter President. I look forward to working with our Board and all of our members.

Our mission is to support and improve the practice of healthcare risk management. I would like to thank all of our members who are involved in activities that support our mission. This includes conference and webinar planners, attendees, speakers, volunteers and sponsors; Board members and Committee members. Your dedication and involvement are instrumental in the success of our chapter. This is truly a team effort.

At the close of 2017 our chapter membership stood at 263. We continue to be a strong and energetic organization. Throughout 2017, a number of our members have been recognized for their outstanding achievements and attainment of professional designations. Congratulations to all of you. I am also delighted to report that chapter finances are in good order.

In 2018, we have contractual commitments to hold our spring conference again at Wrightsville Beach and our fall conference at the Embassy Suites in Concord. Over the past year, your Board has been actively reviewing potential alternative venues for our conferences. Our goals have been, and continues to be, affordability, convenience and an enjoyable conference environment. Earlier this year, we polled the membership regarding potential areas of the state to hold our future conferences. The survey results revealed the majority of the respondents electing to stay at Wrightsville Beach for the spring and most were interested in returning to the mountains in the fall. Taking into consideration the survey results, we have committed to staying at Wrightsville Beach for the next 4 years and have recently signed contracts with the Doubletree at Biltmore Village in Asheville for our fall conferences in 2019‐ 2021.

NC ASHRM is extremely fortunate to have a very engaged membership. To that end, we must continue to work together to find ways to attract new members. As your Chapter President, I encourage all NC ASHRM members to take on the role as an “ambassador” in an effort to promote our organization and increase our membership.

I look forward to working with you all and seeing you at our 2018 conferences.

Thank you.

Karen T. Civali, R.N., CPHRM
